As well as a healthier gut microbiome, the study revealed that those with shorter gut transit times benefited from having less visceral fat – a type of fat that lies deep within the belly and surrounds abdominal organs. Visceral fat is dangerous because it can increase your risk of many health conditions, including heart disease, diabetes, and some cancers.
